Everybody’s Talking About Jamie to make US premiere in Los Angeles

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is to make its US premiere in Los Angeles in 2022.

The hit British musical, which has been running in the West End since 2017, will play at the Ahmanson Theatre between 16 January and 20 February.

Inspired by a true story, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie tells the story of Jamie New, a sixteen-year-old who lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in. Jamie is terrified about the future. He is going to be a sensation.

Supported by his brilliant loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.

It’s the show’s first production in the States and comes ahead of the release of a film adaptation which is due out later in 2021.

Casting for the US production in to be confirmed.

Meanwhile the West End production will reopen in May following a forced closure due to the pandemic.

The show has must by Dan Gillespie Sells with book and lyrics by Tom McRae.

The production is directed by Jonathan Butterell with set and costumes by Anna Fleischle, choreography by Kate Prince, lighting design by Lucy Carter, sound design by Paul Groothuis and video design by Luke Halls.

Musical supervision comes from Theo Jamieson, musical direction by Richard Weeden, casting by Will Burton and the associate director George Richmond-Scott.
