The cast has been confirmed for a showcase performance of Footballers’ Wives The Musical.
The new musical is a stage adaption of the ITV series of the same name which aired for 5 season between 2002 and 2006.
Following the fictional Earls Park Football Club, the series spawned a number of spin-off shows including Footballers’ Wives: Extra Time and Footballers’ Wives TV on ITV2.
Now Maureen Chadwick, co-creator of the original TV series, is writing the book for the musical adaption with music & lyrics by Kath Gotts.
The showcase cast will feature Simon Bailey as Jason, Natasha J. Barnes as Donna, Norman Bowman as Frank, Liam Doyle as Kyle, Alice Fearn as Tanya, Emma Hatton as Chardonnay, Emmanuel Kojo as Ian, Wendi Peters as Nurse Dunkley and Dean John Wilson as Salvo.
The musical is based around the TV show’s first series, following the fall and rise of Tanya Turner – captain’s wife and old school femme fatale – as she struggles to keep her marriage afloat to footballer and lothario, Jason Turner, amidst groupies, meddling club chairmen, deception, betrayal and murder.
A teaser reads: “It’s 2002. Premier League Football is the new Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Earls Park FC wives are living it to the max. These WAGs have the designer gear, the palatial homes, the flash cars and the handsome superstar husbands – and the press pack on their kitten heels at every turn.
“‘Footballers’ Wives – The Musical’ contains scenes of an adult nature and absolutely no football, along with disastrous hen and stag nights, a fairy tale wedding, deception, betrayal, Catholic guilt, and murder – plus a surprisingly happy ending.”
23 original songs have been written with hopes of a full production.
The workshop performance on November 22 will feature musical direction by Gemma Hawkins with Tom Kelly as music associate and is produced by Big Broad Productions.
