A new musical adaptation of Some Like It Hot is looking to hit Broadway in 2022.
Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show) and Matthew López (The Inheritance) are set to write the book with Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) will write the score.
Casey Nicholaw (The Prom) will direct and choreograph with casting and further creatives to be announced.
The show was previously slated for Broadway in 2020, prior to the pandemic.
Based on the 1959 movie of the same name, Some Like It Hot tells the story of two male musicians who disguise themselves as women in an all-female band after they witness a mob murder.
It’s not the first time the film has been adapted for the stage.
1972 Broadway musical Sugar – which played the West End in 1992 – is also based on the film. It features a book by Peter Stone with music by Jule Styne and lyrics from Bob Merrill.
