Andrew Garfield wants to star in Sunday in the Park with George on stage

Andrew Garfield has revealed his hopes of starring in Sunday in the Park with George.

The star of tick, tick… BOOM! says he’d love to return to the stage in a musical.

Garfield has previously been nominated for both a Tony and Olivier Award for his appearances in the plays Death of a Salesman and Angels in America on Broadway and in London respectively.

Following his role in the movie adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s musical, Garfield has shared ambitions of taking up a role in a Stephen Sondheim classic.

He told Variety at the SAG Awards this week of starring in a Broadway musical: “I would love to. I’d love to do Georges Seurat in Sunday in the Park with George.

“That would be so much fun.”

He added of the show’s late composer, Sondheim: “We need him, we miss him.”

You can watch Garfield in tick, tick… BOOM! on Netflix now.

Directed by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, the film stars Garfield as Jon alongside a stellar cast including Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesus, Joshua Henry, Mj Rodriguez and Judith Light – plus more Broadway cameos than you can count.

The semi-autobiographical story from RENT composer Jonathan Larson follows an aspiring musical theatre composer working as a waiter while attempting to get his work staged.
