A new production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s musical will run off-Broadway later in 2022 at New York Theater Workshop.

Maria Friedman is to direct the revival having previously helmed a production in London at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2023. Tim Jackson will choreograph.

Radcliffe will play Charley Kringas in the piece with further casting and creatives to be announced.

Based on the play of the same name by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, Merrily We Roll Along tells the story of Broadway composer turned film producer Franklin Shepard and his two friends. The show is told in reverse chronology over a period of 20 years, starting in 1976 and working back to the 1950s.

The original Broadway production in 1981 closed after just 16 performances and 52 previews. While there has not yet been a Broadway revival, this will be the third off-Broadway production.
