Here’s a rundown of all the new musicals heading to Broadway in 2022.

From movie adaptions and bio-musicals to West End transfers and new original works, it’s shaping up to be a busy Broadway season.


Some Like It Hot

Based on the 1959 film of the same name, Some Like It Hot will open at the Shubert Theatre on 11 December following previews from 1 November.

The adaptation has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman & Shaiman and a book by Matthew López & Amber Ruffin.

Some Like It Hot tells the story of two musicians who disguise themselves as women and join an all-female band to escape from the mafia after witnessing a murder.

The cast will be led by Christian Borle as Joe/Josephine, J. Harrison Ghee as Jerry/Daphne, Adrianna Hicks as Sugar, Kevin Del Aguila as Osgood, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Sweet Sue, Adam Heller as Mulligan and Mark Lotito as Spats.


Almost Famous

Based on the 2000 American comedy-drama, Almost Famous will make its Broadway bow this autumn at Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. The piece will begin previews on 3 October ahead of an official opening on 3 November.

On the cast will be Chris Wood, Anika Larsen, Solea Pfeiffer, Drew Gehling and Casey Likes.

The stage adaptation features a book by Cameron Crowe, who penned the film, with music by Tom Kitt and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Cameron Crowe.


& Juliet

Hit West End musical & Juliet has announced plans to open in New York this autumn at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The Broadway production will begin previews on 28 October before an opening night on 17 November.

The cast is led by Lorna Courtney in the title role with Paulo Szot as Lance, Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Stark Sands as Shakespeare, Justin David Sullivan as May, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo and Philippe Arroyo as Francois.

Original West End cast member Melanie La Barrie reprises her role as Nurse.


Back To The Future: The Musical

Back To The Future: The Musical is heading to Broadway! Based on the iconic 1985 film of the same name the hit show is currently playing at London’s Adelphi Theatre in the West End.

It will soon be travelling across the Atlantic to make a Broadway bow sometime in 2023.

Further details including a theatre, dates and casting are all to be revealed.

New musical KPOP is to open on Broadway in autumn 2022. Written by Jason Kim with music and lyrics by Helen Park and Max Vernon, KPOP first premiered off-Broadway in 2017.

The new Broadway production will run at the Circle in the Square Theatre, opening 20 November 2022 with previews from 13 October.

The show will star K-pop star Luna alongside Kevin Woo, Min-Young Lee and Bohyung Kim.


Kimberly Akimbo

Based on the 2000 play of the same name by David Lindsay-Abaire, Kimberly Akimbo will open at the Booth Theatre on 10 November following previews from 12 October.

Transferring from Off-Broadway, Lindsay-Abaire pens the book and lyrics with music by Jeanine Tesori.

The cast will be led by Tony winner Victoria Clark in the title role of Kimberly. The company is completed by Justin Cooley, Steven Boyer, Alli Mauzey, Bonnie Milligan, Fernell Hogan, Olivia Elease Hardy, Michael Iskander and Nina White.


A Beautiful Noise

Named after Neil Diamond’s 1976 album of the same name, A Beautiful Noise will open at the Broadhurst Theatre on 4 December 2022.

Written by Anthony McCarten and directed by Michael Mayer with choreography by Steven Hoggett, the musical uses Diamond’s songs to tell his life story.

The Broadway cast will be led by Will Swenson as Neil Diamond (Then) Mark Jacoby as Neil Diamond (Now) with Robyn Hurder as Marcia Murphey, Linda Powell as Doctor, Jessie Fisher as Jaye Posner, Michael McCormick as Fred Colby/Tommy O’Rourke, Tom Alan Robbins as Bert Berns/Kieve Diamond and Bri Sudia as Ellie Greenwich/Rose Diamond

Completing the company are Jessie Austrian, Neal Benari, Jordon Dobson, Ninako Donville, Paige Faure, Nick Fradiani, Kalonjee Gallimore, Samantha Gershman, Alex Hairston, Makai Hernandez, Jess LeProtto, Tatiana Lofton, Aaron James McKenzie, Mary Page Nance, Robert Pendilla, Max Sangerman and MiMi Scardulla.
