Boy George musical Taboo to play 20th anniversary charity concert

Musical Taboo is to return to London for a charity concert.

Celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary, Taboo will run at the London Palladium for two nights on Sunday, 30 January and Monday, 31 January 2022.

Taboo features music & lyrics by Boy George with additional music from John Themis, Richie Stevens and Kevan Frost and a book by Mark Davies Markham.

Set in London in the 1980s, the musical celebrates the exotic fashions, the exuberant lifestyles and extraordinary characters of the New Romantic movement.

The musical first premiered in 2002 in London’s West End before a short spell on Broadway in 2003 with the two productions picking up four Olivier and Tony Award nominations respectively.

The concert production will be directed by Christopher Renshaw and will feature stars from the show’s original West End and Broadway casts, with the exact line up to be announced.

Past cast have included Luke Evans, Matt Lucas, Diane Pilkington, Declan Bennett, Euan Morton, Lyn Paul, Stephen Ashfield and John Partridge while Julian Clary and Boy George himself all made their West End debuts as part of the show.

The concert will be raising funds for the Terrence Higgins Trust and Shelter, with tickets from £25 on sale now here.

Boy George said: “Taboo was an extraordinary experience, with such a talented cast, and I’m very happy it’s back for one night only to support two of my favourite charities.

“This performance at the infamous London Palladium is also the most fitting way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of when we first opened Taboo in London’s West End.”
