A Stephen Sondheim musical concert will be available to stream online from February.
Simply Sondheim will be produced by Signature Theatre in Arlington Virginia and available to watch online via Marquee.TV.
The piece will stream between 2 February and 26 March, with UK audiences able to tune in.
Created specifically for Signature Theatre with special permission from Sondheim himself, this jam-packed revue features over 30 songs from the composer’s canon.
The quintessential “Finishing the Hat,” “Another Hundred People,” “Losing My Mind” and “The Worst Pies in London” meet lesser known gems including “Country House,” “Saturday Night” and “Goodbye for Now” and are fused with new orchestrations by longtime Sondheim collaborator Jonathan Tunick.
An 16-piece orchestra will lead an all star cast of performers including Norm Lewis, Solea Pfeiffer, Conrad Ricamora and Emily Skinner.
They are joined by Nicholas McDonough, Donna Migliaccio, Christopher Mueller, Katie Mariko Murray, Tracy Lynn Olivera, Paul Scanlan, Awa Sal Secka and Bobby Smith.
Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner said: “After an 8 month hiatus, returning to Signature to film a production of Simply Sondheim was a joyous experience from beginning to end.
“The room was filled with artists who have meant a great deal to Signature over the years, and to hear them singing the songs of the man who has always been Signature’s signature- well there could be no more perfect homecoming. I’m excited for audiences who know us, as well as audiences who are new to us, to experience Signature and Sondheim together again on film.”
