Wonder Boy at Bristol Old Vic to stream online worldwide

Bristol Old Vic’s production of Wonder Boy is to stream online worldwide in May.

Bristol Old Vic On Screen is making the show available to watch across the globe in a limited run, in a new partnership with Digital Theatre who will host the stream.

Written by Ross Willis’, Wonder Boy was first staged in March 2022 with the filmed version recorded live at Bristol Old Vic.

It tells the story of 12 year-old Sonny, who is living with a stammer and trying to find his way in a world ruled by vicious vowels, confusing consonants and his ultimate nemesis – small talk.

When he’s cast in a school production of Hamlet by the headteacher, he soon discovers that language is power and the real heroes are closer than you think.

The cast features Juliet Agnes, Benji Bower, Will Bower, Raphel Famotibe, Jenny Fitzpatrick, Amanda Lawrence and Ramesh Mayyappan.

Sally Cookson directs with music by Benji Bower, set & costume design by Katie Sykes, lighting by Aideen Malone, caption & video design by Tom Newell of Limbic Cinema, sound by Jon Everett and movement by Laila Diallo. The associate director is Max Sutherland and Deaf consultant is David Ellington.

Tickets for access to the streamed show are available to purchase in advance now, with the production released for a strictly limited digital run from 23-29 May.

There are versions of the show with BSL interpretation or Audio Description.
