Cast announced for The Last Five Years at the Minack Theatre

Casting has been announced for the outdoor production of The Last Five Years at the Minack Theatre.

Emma Kingston (Evita, In The Heights, Les Miserables) and Waylon Jacobs (Hamilton, Memphis, Ragtime) will star as Cathy and Jamie in Jason Robert Brown’s cult musical at the Cornwall venue.

The show, produced by David Jenkins for Brilliant Theatre in association with Chris Passey and Ben MacSkimming, will run between September 14 and 19 with tickets available online via the Minack Theatre website here.

David Jenkins said: “We’re delighted to be able to bring the West End to Cornwall during such a difficult time for our industry.

“We are incredibly lucky to have been able to assemble an incredible creative and production team to bring this emotional and complex musical to life in one of most stunning venues in the world.

“It has been a dream of mine for 8 years to produce a professional production on that iconic granite stage.”

The creative team is lead with direction from Omar F. Okai (Ruthless, Purlie, Five Guys Named Moe Frankfurt, Set and Lighting Designs by Andrew Exeter (High Fidelity, Once On This Island) Musical Direction by Leo Munby (Gypsy, Dogfight with Associate Designer Natalia Alvarez (Debut Festival, Paperboy) and Assistant Director Rebecca Wicking (Hair, A Tale of Two Cities and Rent).

With a book, music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years is all about the relationship between Jamie and Cathy, two twenty-somethings living in New York.

The intimate sung-through piece tells the story of the couple’s five years together with Jamie and Cathy each telling their story on opposite timelines; Jamie goes from beginning to end while Cathy starts at the end and works back to the start.
