Rent at Hope Mill Theatre cast and trailer

Watch a first trailer of the new production of Rent at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre.

The brand new revival was first due to run at the venue last summer before the pandemic forced in-person performances to be cancelled and the show ultimately streamed online.

A year on and the acclaimed production is now playing for Rent Hope Mill Theatre 2021 cast features returning members of last year’s company, Tom Francis (Roger), Jocasta Almgill (Joanne), Dom Hartley-Harris (Collins), Millie O’Connell (Maureen), Maiya Quansah-Breed (Mimi), Alex Thomas-Smith (Angel) and Isaac Hesketh.

They are joined for the new in-person run by Luke Bayer (Mark) and Michael Ahomka-Lindsay (Benny) together with Iona Fraser, Alison Driver, Joe Foster and Karl Lankester.

Luke Sheppard directs the production which features choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves, musical supervision by Katy Richardson, musical direction by Chris Poon, set and costume design by David Woodhead, lighting design by Howard Hudson and sound design by Paul Gatehouse.

Production design is by George Reeve, the assistant director is Priya Appleby, costume supervision comes from Ester Mangas, production photography by Dujonna Gift-Simms and make up and wig design by Jackie Saundercock.

Loosely inspired by Puccini’s classic opera La Bohème, Rent follows a year in the life of eight struggling young artists in New York’s Lower East Side as they attempt to navigate a world overshadowed by the HIV/AIDs pandemic, addiction, poverty and homophobia.

The multi-award winning musical from the late Jonathan Larson features a fierce and fearless score including ‘La Vie Bohème’, ‘Rent’, ‘Take Me or Leave Me’ and ‘Seasons of Love’.
