A brand new UK tour of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will open in the UK in 2021.
Based on the 1991 animated film of the same name, the Beauty and the Beast stage adaption features a book by Linda Woolverton with music from Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.
It will open at the Curve Leicester in May 2021 before touring across the UK and Ireland.
Curve’s Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster said: “We are thrilled Disney Theatrical has chosen Curve as the opening venue for the tour of the brand new production of Beauty and the Beast in 2021.
“We all need some good news right now and this investment in our theatre and city gives us all something truly magical to look forward to.”
Tickets will go on sale later this year.
Disney Theatrical are set to reunite the original creative team that originated the 1994 Broadway production, led by director Robert Jesse Roth and choreographer Matt Wes. Casting is currently underway.
There are rumours that the show will could transfer to the West End in 2022 having last played at the Dominion Theatre in December 1999.
The magical tale tells the story of a prince, cursed to live as a terrifying monster until he finds true love, and a village girl called Belle, who draws the cold-hearted beast out of his isolation with help from some enchanted servants.
Alongside the stage musical, a live action remake was released in 2017 starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and Luke Evans.
Thomas Schumacher, the president of Disney Theatrical Productions, previously revealed plans to bring back the musical in a letter to staff (via The New York Times).
It follows news that the company’s Broadway production of Frozen will be closing amid the ongoing theatre shutdown.
Meanwhile, Disney has also confirmed it’s also currently working on The Jungle Book, The Princess Bride & Bedknobs and Broomsticks stage adaptions.
