The Lion King is touring the UK 2021 and 2022 – here’s all you need to know.

The new UK tour of Disney’s The Lion King will celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary since premiering in London.

Based on the all-time classic animated film, The Lion King is set against the majesty of the Serengeti Plains to the evocative rhythms of Africa. Exploding with glorious colours, stunning effects and enchanting music, it tells the timeless story of Simba and his epic journey to fulfil his destiny as King of the Pridelands.

Director Julie Taymor made Broadway history by becoming the first woman to win the Tony Award® for ’Best Director of a Musical’ for her work on the production, which features incredible staging and puppets.

The Lion King opened in London in October 1999, two years after the original Broadway production, and has been seen by over 95 million people across the world.

The upcoming tour is the second in the UK after the first outing between 2012 and 2015.

The Lion King UK tour cast sees Stephenson Ardern-Sodje will play Simba, Nokwanda Khuzwayo will take on the role of Nala and Thandazile Soni will play Rafiki.

Alan Mchale will play Timon, Carl Sanderson will play Pumbaa, Matthew Forbes will play Zazu, Jean-Luc Guizonne will play Mufasa, Owain Rhys Davies will play Ed, Rebecca Omogbehin will play Shenzi, Simon Trinder will play Banzai and Richard Hurst will play Scar.
