Claire Sweeney is to join the cast of 9 to 5: The Musical’s ongoing UK tour.
Sweeney will takeover over the role of Violet Newstead from Louise Redknapp in 2022, joining the cast from 13 January until 5 March 2022.
With a score written by country music icon Dolly Parton, 9 To 5 The Musical is based on the 1980s comedy movie of the same name, which Dolly starred in.
The Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-nominated score features some of Parton’s biggest hits, including the legendary ‘9 to 5’, as well as original songs written for the show.
Sweeney joins the cast which includes Vivian Panka making her professional UK stage debut as ‘Judy Bernly’, Stephanie Chandos as ‘Doralee Rhodes’, Sean Needham as ‘Franklin Hart Jr.’ – a role he played on many occasions in both the West End and on tour, Julia J. Nagle as ‘Roz Keith’ and Russell Dickson as ‘Joe’.
The cast is completed by Alexander Bartles, Sierra Brewerton, Rebekah Bryant, Emily Bull, Demmileigh Foster, Sonny Grieveson, Callum Henderson, Joshua Lear, Ross Lee Fowkes, Sarah-Marie Maxwell Jon Reynolds, Clayton Rosa, Kirsty Anne Shaw, Ricardo Spriggs, Grace Walker, Emily Woodford, and Richard Taylor Woods.
The tour is currently playing Sunderland Empire (9 – 13 November) before moving to Birmingham, Inverness , Plymouth, Southend, Oxford, Glasgow, Woking, Sheffield, Stoke and Manchester.
The musical tells the story of workmates Doralee, Violet and Judy who push back against sexist supervisor Franklin Hart. The Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-nominated score features some of Parton’s biggest hits, including the legendary ‘9 to 5’, as well as original songs written for the show.
