Ben Platt and Kaitlyn Dever tipped for Dear Evan Hansen film cast

Ben Platt and Kaitlyn Dever have been rumoured for a film adaption of Dear Evan Hansen.

Hit original musical Dear Evan Hansen is currently playing on both Broadway and London’s West End.

A film adaption was previously optioned by Universal with casting now reportedly underway.

Deadline reports that Ben Platt is expected to reprise his part in the titular role which he won a Tony award for originating on Broadway.

Booksmart and Unbelievable actress Kaitlyn Dever is said to be in talks to play alongside Platt in the role of Zoe Murphy.

With a score written by Dogfight and The Greatest Showman songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a book by Steven Levenson, Dear Evan Hansen has proved a huge hit ever since it premiered in 2016.

Pasek, Paul and Levenson will reunite to work on the film which is to be directed by Stephen Chbosky.

No release date has yet been set.

Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of socially awkward teenager Evan. In his last year of high school and with only one person he considers a friend, an assignment from his therapist leads to a misunderstanding that casts him in the centre of a tragedy.
