Lin-Manuel Miranda working on new animated Disney musical set in Colombia

Lin-Manuel Miranda has revealed he is working on a new animated Disney musical.

The Hamilton creator is working with Jared Bush, writer of 2016 animation Moana which Miranda wrote songs for.

He shared on Good Morning America: “I’m actually writing a new animated musical with Disney Animation.”

Miranda teased: “I’m collaborating with the Zootopia guys and Jared Bush, who wrote Moana with me.

“It’s set in Colombia, in Latin America and that’s all I can say before [Disney boss] Bob Iger just shows up in my home.”

Further details about the film are yet to be announced.

The news comes as Hamilton prepares to debut on Disney’s streaming service Disney+ from Friday, July 3.

Disney tease: “An unforgettable cinematic stage performance, the filmed version of the original Broadway production of Hamilton combines the best elements of live theatre, film and streaming to bring the cultural phenomenon to homes around the world for a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“Hamilton is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre — a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education.”
