Alan Menken achieves EGOT after Emmy win for Tangled TV series

Legendary composer Alan Menken has become the latest person to achieve EGOT status thanks to an Emmy Award win.

EGOT refers to the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards with Menken becoming only the sixteenth person to win at least one of each.

He picked up a Daytime Emmy Award on Sunday for his original song Waiting in the Wings from Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, a TV series based on the Tangled film.

Menken shared the victory with lyricist Glenn Slater with the pair having previously worked together on songs for the original movie.

Prior to the weekend, Menken already had eight Academy Awards and 11 Grammy Awards thanks to his iconic music in Disney films such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast and Tangled.

In 2012 he added a Tony award to his collection for his score for Disney’s stage adaption of Newsies, based on the 1992 film of the same name.

Alongside his work with Disney, Menken’s works include Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors and upcoming movie Spellbound from Skydance Animation.

You can watch the music video for the now Emmy Award winning ‘Waiting in the Wings’ below, performed by Broadway star Eden Espinosa. Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure is available to stream on Disney+.
