Disney’s 1940 animated musical is set to be the latest classic film remade in live action.

The pair previously worked together on Forrest Gump, Cast Away and The Polar Express.

Further currently confirmed casting includes Luke Evans as The Coachman, Cynthia Erivo as Blue Fairy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will voice Pinocchio, with Keegan-Michael Key as the voice of Honest John and Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull.

The movie will debut on Disney+ in the UK on 8 September 2022.

Chris Weitz is to pen the script based on the original story of wood-carver Geppetto who creates a wooden puppet named Pinocchio which is brought to life by a fairy. Pinocchio is told he can become a real boy if he can prove himself to be “brave, truthful, and unselfish”.

Pinocchio is the latest live-action adaption of a classic animated Disney movie.

2019 saw Aladdin and The Lion King both enjoy box office takings in excess of $1 billion while Mulan was released in 2020. An adaption of The Little Mermaid is filmed last year in the UK while a Snow White film is in the works, starring West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler and Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot.

Meanwhile it was recently confirmed that Jude Law is to star in a live action Peter Pan movie, coming to Disney+.
