The Boys in the Band Netflix release date, cast and trailer as hit play comes to screen

A film adaption of Mart Crowley’s hit play The Boys in the Band is coming to Netflix.

With a screenplay by Crowley, the adaptation is directed by Joe Mantello – who directed the 2018 Broadway revival – and is produced by Ryan Murphy

Netflix have announced the film will be released on Wednesday, September 30 2020 at 8AM UK time.

The cast will be made up of Jim Parsons as Michael, Zachary Quinto as Harold, Matt Bomer as Donald, Andrew Rannells as Larry, Charlie Carver as Cowboy, Robin de Jesús as Emory, Brian Hutchison as Alan, Tuc Watkins as Hank and Michael Benjamin Washington as Bernard.

The pieces follows a group of gay friends as they reunite to celebrate one of their birthdays when an unexpected visit from old friend throws the evening into turmoil.

The Boys in the Band first ran off-Broadway in 1968 where it ran for more than 1,000 performances and spawned a 1970 film adaption.

The show was revived on Broadway in 2018 and also ran in London in 2016.

Sadly, writer Mart Crowley passed away earlier this year in March at the age of 84.
