The Wicked movie is finally on the way – who will be on the cast?
Wicked reveals the ‘true untold story’ behind the Wizard Of Oz and just what happened before Dorothy dropped in.
Featuring some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs, such as Defying Gravity and Popular, Wicked has proved a huge hit in both London’s West End and on Broadway for almost two decades.
A movie adaption has been in the works for years and is now – hopefully – getting towards a release.
In The Heights and Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu is now confirmed to be helming the project, asking on Twitter: “So… who wants to be Elphaba and Glinda?”
Wicked movie cast
As of writing no names have been officially announced so far but there have been many rumours.
Four-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton has been tipped for the role of Madame Morrible while it’s been reported that producers are looking at either Dove Cameron or Lili Reinhart for the role of G(a)linda.
The likes of Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga have both been linked to the lead role of Elphaba but again nothing has been officially announced.
Original Elphaba Idina Menzel previously ruled herself out.
Menzel, who won a Tony for her role as the green-skinned witch, laughed when asked if she would be involved in the adaption: “No, not really.”
We’ll keep this post updated with all the latest official announcements and Wicked casting rumours.
