A new Snow White film from Disney is to star Rachel Zegler in the title role.

The new movie is the latest live-action remake of classic Disney films, following Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin and Mulan.

As first reported by Deadline, Rachel Zegler – who will appear as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake later this year – is to play Snow White.

Gal Gadot has been cast to play the Evil Queen while The Inheritance star Andrew Burnap will also appear in a to-be-announced role.

There will be new songs from The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen duo Benj Pasek & Justin Paul while Marc Webb will direct.

Webb said: “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”

Inspired by the classic fairytale from Brothers Grimm, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs became Disney’s first animated feature in 1938.

The new live action version is expected to build upon the story and music from the original, although exact details are to be announced.

Further casting and a potential release date are also to be revealed.
