The new movie is the latest live-action remake of classic Disney films, following The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin and Mulan.

Gal Gadot has been cast to play the Evil Queen while The Inheritance star Andrew Burnap will also appear in a to-be-announced role.

There will be new songs from The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen songwriting duo Benj Pasek & Justin Paul while Marc Webb will direct. Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson have written the new adaptation.

Webb said: “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”

The reimagined plot

Inspired by the classic fairytale from Brothers Grimm, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs became Disney’s first animated feature in 1938.

The new live action version is expected to build upon the story and music from the original.

Discussing what to expect from the plot, Zegler said: “We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume is a love story… it’s one of those things that I think everyone’s going to have their assumptions about what’s going to be.

“It’s really not about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful. Whether she finds love along the way is anyone’s guess until 2024.”
