Listen to first song from new West Side Story movie soundtrack

A first song has been released from the upcoming 2021 West Side Story movie soundtrack.

Steven Spielberg directs a new big screen version of the award-winning musical which will be in cinemas on 10 December.

Before then you can listen to a first song from the film’s soundtrack, which will be released digitally on Friday, 3 December before a physical release on CD and Vinyl a week later.

Based loosely on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is set in 1950s New York and tells the story of teenage lovers Tony and Maria who are caught between warring street gangs, the American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks.

The original stage show featured a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Alongside Ansel and Rachel, the movie stars, Ariana DeBose (Anita), David Alvarez (Bernardo), Mike Faist (Riff), Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke), Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank), Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino) and Rita Moreno (Valentina).

West Side Story is released in UK cinemas from 10 December.
