The Lion King 2019 soundtrack released to stream, download and on CD

The Lion King new soundtrack now available worldwide

Disney has unveiled the soundtrack for its 2019 remake of The Lion King.

The live action remake of the animated classic will open in cinemas next weekend from July 19.

Beyoncé and Donald Glover star as Nala and Simba respectively with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon, while original cast member James Earl Jones reprises his role as Mufasa.

Alongside the original songs from the movie, including award winning Can You Feel the Love Tonight, the remake features new song Spirit performed by Beyoncé.

You can stream the album in full, download or pre-order the CD now from Amazon Music.

Alongside the official motion picture soundtrack, Beyoncé will be releasing an accompanying album The Lion King: The Gift.

Described as a “love letter to Africa”, it will feature a number of songs which pay homage to the movie and its influences.

“This is sonic cinema,” said Beyoncé. “This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.”

She said of producing the record: “I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline. Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation.

“It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”

Tracklisting and artists featured on The Lion King: The Gift will be revealed in due course.

The Lion King 2019 UK release date has been confirmed for 19 July 2019.

Meanwhile, a stage adaption of the original film is currently playing on London’s West End and will tour the UK from 2020.
