Cats movie full trailer revealed – get a first look at film adaption of iconic musical

The first full trailer of the 2019 Cats movie has been revealed.

Since its world premiere in 1981, the musical Cats has become a worldwide hit with productions in over 30 countries seen by more than 70 million people.

Now a film adaption of the stage musical is on its way to cinemas, currently scheduled for release in the UK in December, 2019.

The Cats movie features an all star cast including Taylor Swift as Bombalurina, Ian McKellen as Gus the Theatre Cat, James Jordan as Bustopher Jones and Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella.

With a score composed by the legendary Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical tells the tale of a group of so-called Jellicle cats deciding who will ascend to the Heaviside Layer.

Featuring songs such as ‘Memory’, the cats each tell their stories at the Jellicle ball before one is chosen to be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

Further casting includes Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots, Idris Elba as Macavity, Judi Dench as Old Deuteronomy, Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugge and Ray Winstone as Growltiger

The movie will be directed by Tom Hooper, who previously directed the Les Misérables film adaption, with screenplay by Hooper together with Lee Hall.

In addition, the film will feature choreography from Andy Blankenbuehler, who previously choreographed the 2016 Broadway revival as well as Hamilton.

The film is currently scheduled for release in the UK on December 20, 2019, by Universal Pictures.
