The Everybody’s Talking About Jamie film has a confirmed cast, release date and first trailer!

An adaption of the West End musical is now on its way – here’s all you need to know!

New Regency, Film4 and Warp Films are producing the movie which will feature the creative team behind the stage production: director Jonathan Butterell, writer Tom MacRae, composer Dan Gillespie Sells and choreographer Kate Prince.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie tells the story of Jamie New, a sixteen-year-old who lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in. Jamie is terrified about the future. He is going to be a sensation.

Supported by his brilliant loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will be released online via Amazon Prime Video on 17 September 2021 worldwide.

The movie was originally due out in cinemas in October 2020 before being delayed due to the pandemic to February 2021 when it was delayed again.

Director Jonathan Butterell said: “I am thrilled that our film – the story of taking your place in the world with joy, pride and acceptance – will be winging its way across the world with the Amazon Family. Let’s come together to celebrate the glorious and fabulous uniqueness of each and every one of us.”

After receiving over 3,000 applications from the open casting call, 21-year-old newcomer Max Harwood will make his professional debut in the title role of Jamie New.

The rest of the cast includes Recent Academy Award™ nominee Richard E. Grant as former drag queen and Jamie’s mentor Hugo with BAFTA nominee Sharon Horgan as Jamie’s teacher Miss Hedge.

BAFTA winner Sarah Lancashire will play his mother Margaret while Shobna Gulati, from the original stage cast, will reprise her role of Ray.

Lauren Patel plays Pritti Pasha, Ralph Ineson plays Wayne New and Adeel Akhtar plays Iman Massood.

They’ll be joined by drag queens Ola Jide/Son of a Tutu as Sandra Bollock, Gareth Joyner/Myra Dubois as Laika Virgin and Dan Wallace/Anna Phylactic as Tray Sophistica.

Plus, the original Jamie New in the West End production John McCrea will feature as Young Loco Chanelle.

Further casting includes Samuel Bottomley as Dean, Charlotte Salt as Cheryl, Rita May as Mrs Cardwell, Amanda Edwards as Mrs Pasha, Saskia Davis as Becca, Lauren Fidget Haywood as Ellie, Ramzan Miah as Zayn Sharma, Zane Alsaroori as Sayid, Dannie Pye as Matty, James Sharp as Denzil, Lewis Sharp as Tyson and Ryan Cox as Aaron.

Filming of the movie took place on location in Sheffield in the summer of 2019.

“Now the party’s really getting started.”

Meanwhile, the show continues to play on London’s West End while a UK tour is also currently underway.
