Matilda The Musical trailer revealed for new movie adaptation

A first trailer from the upcoming film adaptation of Matilda The Musical has been revealed!

A brand new take on the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical will come to cinemas and Netflix this November.

With original songs from comedian Tim Minchin, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical tells the story of an extraordinary girl, with a vivid imagination, who dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results.

Directed by Matthew Warchus, who directed the stage version, Alisha Weir takes up the title role with Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchball and Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey.

The new film adaptation of Matilda The Musical will be released theatrically in the UK by Sony Pictures Releasing on 25 November, 2022.

The movie will be released elsewhere in the world on Netflix on 25 December.

A teaser shares: “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is an inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories, whilst also taking charge of her own destiny. Standing up for what’s right, she’s met with miraculous results.”

Also on the cast are Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough who play Matilda’s parents, Mr and Mrs Wormwood and Sindhu Vee as librarian Mrs Phelps.

Meanwhile the West End stage production continues to run in London having first premiered in 2011.

The show is currently booking at the Cambridge Theatre through to 2023 with tickets on sale here.
