Sara Bareilles reveals first look at Waitress musical proshot

Sara Bareilles has teased an upcoming filmed production of her Waitress musical.

The musical recently returned to New York just two years after it originally closed in January 2020.

Composer Bareilles starred in the run with a filmed performance recorded at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

While no release date for the Waitress proshot has been confirmed just yet, Bareilles took to Instagram this weekend to tease fans with a short clip of her as Jenna Hunterson.

“Life is weird and wonderful” Bareilles captioned the snap as she sat preparing for her current Broadway role in Into The Woods.

Speaking last year about returning to Waitress, Bareilles said: “It is a gift to get to revisit the beautiful story of Waitress, centered around hope, resilience, and the support of our chosen family.

“It’s so special to be able to celebrate those same qualities at this moment in time within our theater family.”

Based on the film of the same name, Waitress tells the story of Jenna a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage.

The musical features a Tony and Grammy nominated score by Bareilles, a book by Jessie Nelson and direction by Diane Paulus.

The show ran for over 1,500 performances on Broadway between 2016 and 2020 while a West End production ran from 2019 until the pandemic in March 2020.

A first UK tour of Waitress is currently underway.
