A film adaption of Matilda the Musical has been confirmed with casting underway.
Winner of five Best Musical awards and with 5 star reviews, Matilda has been playing at the Cambridge Theatre since 2011.
Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, with original songs from comedian Tim Minchin, Matilda is the captivating musical masterpiece from the RSC that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dares to change her destiny.
A film adaption of the stage show has been rumoured for years and now work appears to be underway.
An open casting call has been posted to find child actors for the title role of Matilda as well as her classmates.
According to the audition listing information, rehearsals will begin in the summer before shooting from August through to December 2020.
The film will be produced by Working Title Films - the company behind big screen adaptions of Les Misérables and Cats - and directed by Matthew Warchus, who was at the helm for the original RSC production of Matilda.
A planned release date and further information about the film has yet to be confirmed.
In the meantime, Matilda continues to play in London's West End, currently booking through to December 2020.
Matilda the Musical plays at the Cambridge Theatre with performances Tuesday-Friday at 7PM, Wednesdays at 2PM, Saturday at 2:30PM and 7:30PM and Sundays at 3PM.
