Matilda the Musical movie cast set to star Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer

Matilda the Musical’s movie adaption is set to star Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer.

Matilda has been playing in London’s West End at the Cambridge Theatre since 2011 and is now on its way to the big screen.

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, with original songs from comedian Tim Minchin, Matilda is the captivating musical masterpiece from the RSC that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dares to change her destiny.

The Daily Mail newspaper reports that Ralph Fiennes has signed on to play Miss Trunchbull. Fiennes’ stage and screen credits include Harry Potter, Schindler’s List and Hamlet.

Furthermore, Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer is said to be in talks to play the role of Miss Honey.

An open casting call previously took place to find child actors for the title role of Matilda as well as her classmates.

The film will be directed by Matthew Warchus, who was at the helm for the original RSC production of Matilda.

A planned release date and further information about the film has yet to be confirmed.

In the meantime, Matilda continues to play in London’s West End, currently booking through to May 2021.
