Moulin Rouge! The Musical West End opening

Moulin Rouge! was due to begin performances in London at the Piccadilly Theatre in March 2021.

But with the ongoing pandemic and theatre shutdown, the opening has now been postponed until at least the autumn of 2021.

An exact opening night is to be confirmed and will ultimately depend on future lockdown restrictions.

Due to the pandemic, the cast for the London production is also still to be announced with auditions previously starting in Spring 2020.

The show said: “We’re moving our London performance dates to Autumn 2021 to ensure the show is perfectly SPECTACULAR when it arrives!

“We cannot wait to see the West End shine bright like a diamond once more. To Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love! ”

Producer Carmen Pavlovic commented: “Whilst we’re disappointed to be opening a little later than originally planned, we are committed to bringing Moulin Rouge! The Musical to London and look forward to being part of a revived West End.”

Moulin Rouge The Musical is based on the 2001 film Moulin Rouge! directed by Baz Luhrmann and written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce. It tells the story of Christian who falls in love with actress and courtesan Satine, star of Paris cabaret venue Moulin Rouge.

The jukebox musical features a book by John Logan with a pop rock score made up of songs from artists ranging from Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Sia, Katy Perry and Beyonce to Elton John , Lorde, The White Stripes and The Police.

An Original Broadway Cast Recording is available here.
