The show was originally due to open in March 2021 but was delayed due to the pandemic.

Alex Timbers will direct with the cast for the London production still to be announced after auditions first started in Spring 2020.

The show said: “We’re moving our London performance dates to Autumn 2021 to ensure the show is perfectly SPECTACULAR when it arrives!

“We cannot wait to see the West End shine bright like a diamond once more. To Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Love! ”

Producer Carmen Pavlovic commented: “At its heart, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is about a group of artists fighting to keep their stage show alive. That element of the story has felt very real for us as a company, as we’ve contended with the Covid shutdown and delay to our UK premiere.

“But now we are so excited and so honoured to finally confirm that our show will form part of a revitalised West End. We cannot wait for the red windmill to start turning in London!”

Moulin Rouge The Musical is based on the 2001 film Moulin Rouge! directed by Baz Luhrmann and written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce. It tells the story of Christian who falls in love with actress and courtesan Satine, star of Paris cabaret venue Moulin Rouge.

The jukebox musical features a book by John Logan with a pop rock score made up of songs from artists ranging from Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Sia, Katy Perry and Beyonce to Elton John , Lorde, The White Stripes and The Police.

An Original Broadway Cast Recording is available here.
