Watch Hairspray’s West End cast perform on Britain’s Got Talent

The cast of Hairspray’s upcoming West End revival performed on Britain’s Got Talent this weekend.

The original production of Hairspray – directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell – will open in 2021 at the London Coliseum.

Tickets are on sale now here for the show, which is set to begin performances on April 22.

The Hairspray cast – led by Michael Ball, Marisha Wallace and Lizzie Bea – took to the stage on Britain’s Got Talent this weekend to promote the production.

They performed a medley of Good Morning Baltimore and You Can’t Stop The Beat.

Hairspray’s West End revival was originally due to open this Spring and then September but dates were postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.

Performances will now begin on April 22, 2021 for a limited 19 week season until August 28.

Based on the 1980s movie of the same name, Hairspray is set in 1960s Baltimore, Maryland and follows Tracy Turnblad as her dream to dance on The Corny Collins Show turns into a campaign for racial integration.

Michael Ball will reprise his role as Edna Turnblad for the revival having won a Laurence Olivier Award in 2008 for his work in the original production.

Comedian Paul Merton will appear in the role of Wilbur Turnblad while Rita Simons will appear as Velma von Tussle and Jonny Amies as Link Larkin.

Lizzie Bea will star as Tracy Tunblad with Marisha Wallace as Motormouth Maybelle, Georgia Anderson as Amber von Tussle, Kimani Arthur as Little Inez and Dermot Canavan as Wilbur.
