The 2020 Olivier Awards winners are to be revealed on Sunday, October 25, it’s been confirmed.
The Olivier Awards 2020 were due to take place on Sunday, April 5 hosted by Jason Manford at the Royal Albert Hall.
In March it was announced that the event would no longer be going ahead as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
A digital ceremony has now been confirmed to air on ITV and Magic FM with Jason Manford.
The show will feature a mixture of the awards themselves, unique performances, interviews and some very special moments.
Julian Bird, Chief Executive of Society of London Theatre and Executive Producer of the Olivier Awards, said: “We are excited to be able to honour this year’s nominees and winners during a very difficult time for our industry, and demonstrate the outstanding talent we have in our theatre sector in the UK.
“Coming together to celebrate their achievements feels more poignant now than ever before as we all fight collectively to save our theatre industry. I hope that everyone working in, or simply missing the theatre, will join us on the 25 October to celebrate last year’s achievements and remain hopeful for our future”.
The Olivier Awards producers have said they expect the next awards will take place in 2022 due to the lack of new productions that have been able to open this year.
However a special celebration of the theatre industry is planned for 2021 with more information to be revealed.
The 2020 Olivier Award nominations were announced earlier year.
Musicals including & Juliet and Dear Evan Hansen led the way with nine and seven nominations each respectively.
