The 2020 Olivier Awards are on their way – here’s how to watch this year’s virtual ceremony.

The Olivier Awards 2020 were originally due to take place in April before they were cancelled due to the pandemic.


Now a virtual ceremony has been announced on Sunday, October 25 – here’s all you need to know.

Jason Manford will host this year’s show from the London Palladium.

The show will begin online via the Official London Theatre YouTube channel from 9:30PM before moving to TV on ITV at 10:20PM for those in the UK.

Outside of the UK, the entire show will stream online via the Official London YouTube channel.

A highlights show will be broadcast on Magic Radio from 8PM until 10PM on Monday 26 October, with further coverage on digital radio station Magic at the Musicals.

You can see the full 2019 Olivier Award nominations here. Musicals including & Juliet and Dear Evan Hansen led the way with nine and seven nominations each respectively.

Alongside the awards, the night will also see a number of special performances.

Nominees Sam Tutty, star of Dear Evan Hansen, and Miriam-Teak Lee, star of & Juliet, are both confirmed to perform.

Also performing will be Sharon D. Clarke who will pay tribute to lyricist Don Black as he receives the Olivier Special Award for contribution to theatre, presented by Lord Lloyd Webber and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.

Ian McKellen will also be honoured in his 80th year for his tour which visited over 80 theatres, with profits going towards different causes at each theatre, from repairs to outreach programmes and talent development.

As for the next Olivier Awards, producers have said they expect the the ceremony to take a year off due to the lack of new productions that have been able to open this year.

However a special celebration of the theatre industry is planned for 2021 with more information to be revealed.
