9 To 5: The Musical has extended its run in London’s West End until April 2020.
The musical has dubbed today – May 9 – as ‘9/5 day’ to announce the news that 300,000 new tickets were now on sale.
With a score written by country music icon Dolly Parton, 9 To 5 The Musical is based on the 1980s comedy movie of the same name, which Dolly starred in.
It tells the story of workmates Doralee, Violet and Judy who push back against sexist supervisor Franklin Hart. The Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-nominated score features some of Parton’s biggest hits, including the legendary ‘9 to 5’, as well as original songs written for the show.
Parton said today: “I couldn’t think of a better date to announce that the West End run of the show will be extending in to 2020 with a further 300,000 tickets now on sale, that’s almost more tickets than I have rhinestones on my outfits!”
The current cast is led by Louise Redknapp as ‘Violet Newstead’. She’s joined by Amber Davies as ‘Judy Bernly’, Natalie McQueen as ‘Doralee Rhodes’, Bonnie Langford as ‘Roz Keith’ and Brian Conley as ‘Franklin Hart’.
Completing the original London cast are Victoria Anderson, Alexander Bartles, Ashford Campbell, Simon Campbell, Rhiane Drummond, Demmileigh Foster, Llandyll Gove, Lucinda Lawrence, Jenny Legg, Christopher Jordan Marshall, Jacob Maynard, Natasha Mould, Sean Needham, Jon Reynolds, James Royden-Lyley, Giles Surridge, Sasha Wareham and Emily Woodford.
Meanwhile, a separate UK tour production will begin this autumn. The second UK tour of the show, which first played Broadway in 2009, will open at the Alexandra Theatre Birmingham on 6 September 2019.
Casting for the tour has yet to be confirmed.
