Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley to star in Cabaret in West End

Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley are to star in a new production of Cabaret in London’s West End.

Eddie Redmayne will play the Emcee, a role he previously played at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2001, while Jessie Buckley will play Sally Bowles.

The pair will star in the piece from November at the Kit Kat Club at London’s Playhouse Theatre, with tickets on sale now here.

The production will be directed by Rebecca Frecknall with design by Tom Scutt, choreography by Julia Cheng, musical supervision and direction by Jennifer Whyte, lighting design by Isabella Byrd, sound design by Nick Lidster, casting director Stuart Burt and associate director Jordan Fein.

Further casting is to be announced.

Director Rebecca Frecknall said: “It’s such a privilege to have the opportunity to direct Cabaret, a show that has always been dear to my heart. It’s thrilling to be able to approach this classic and important musical at a time when its themes and atmosphere feel so contemporary and resonant.

“I’m in awe of my incredible creative team who have come together to create a bold new production as well as a new Kit Kat Club, a bespoke home where we can truly embrace and unlock the world of Cabaret for a new audience.”

Featuring music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb with a book by Joe Masteroff, Cabaret has proved a hit ever since its premieres on Broadway and in London’s West End in the 1960s.

Set in the 1930s Berlin, the musical tells the story of the seedy Kit Kat Klub and the relationship between American writer Cliff Bradshaw and English cabaret performer Sally Bowles.
