A new play and casting has been announced for Greenwich Theatre’s new season of work by Caryl Churchill.
Bad Nights and Odd Days is showcasing four productions by acclaimed playwright Caryl Churchill (Top Girls; A Number).
Newly announced is the dystopian tale, Not Not Not Not Not Enough Oxygen, which will feature alongside Churchill’s unforgettable works, Abortive, Seagulls, and Three More Sleepless Nights, reenergising an inspired anthology for the stage.
Led by acclaimed actor Paul McGann (Withnail and I; Doctor Who), the season will also showcase the talents of Kerrie Taylor (The Bay; Where The Heart Is), Bonnie Baddoo, Dan Gaisford, Gracy Goldman and Verna Vyas. The company will multi-role across the four productions under the direction of Artistic Director James Haddrell.
Bad Nights and Odd Days will explore the darker side of Caryl Churchill’s work, with life shattering events, a carousel of shifting relationships and the presence of psychic phenomena. This intimate collection of plays shows why it is so hard to categorise Churchill’s writing, blending the personal with the political, the naturalistic with the supernatural, the spoken with the unspoken.
Not Not Not Not Not Enough Oxygen foretells a future of ecological and economic destruction whose residents dream of a less polluted life; Abortive highlights the strains of a married couple reeling in the aftermath of a shocking event; Three More Sleepless Nights details the everyday arguments and daily suppression of emotions; while Seagulls is Churchill’s powerful and personal allegory about losing the ability to write.
Director James Haddrell commented: “In consultation with Caryl Churchill we are delighted to have added a fourth play to the line-up for Bad Nights and Odd Days. With a cast led by Paul McGann and Kerrie Taylor, the programme now includes a special new production of Not Not Not Not Not Enough Oxygen, a frighteningly prescient view of the future in which even the air we breathe has become a commodity.”
Bad Nights and Odd Days will run between 23 June and 10 July with tickets and more information available at https://greenwichtheatre.org.uk/events/bad-nights-and-odd-days/
