Watch Hairspray West End cast perform on The One Show!

The West End cast of Hairspray took to the stage for a special performance on BBC One this week.

The original production of Hairspray – directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell – will return to the West End in June with tickets on sale now here.

Ahead of opening night, the cast dropped by The One Show on BBC One on Thursday evening (17 June) to perform You Can’t Stop The Beat.

Hairspray was originally due to open last Spring and then September but dates were postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.

Performances will now begin on 22 June, 2021 for a limited season until 29 September with social distancing in place until 19 July.

The cast will feature Michael Ball reprising his Olivier Award winning role as Edna Turnblad with comedian Les Dennis as Wilbur Turnblad, Rita Simons as Velma von Tussle and Jonny Amies as Link Larkin.

Lizzie Bea will star as Tracy Tunblad with Marisha Wallace as Motormouth Maybelle, Georgia Anderson as Amber von Tussle and Kimani Arthur as Little Inez.

Based on the 1980s movie of the same name, Hairspray is set in 1960s Baltimore, Maryland and follows Tracy Turnblad as her dream to dance on The Corny Collins Show turns into a campaign for racial integration.
