Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella will reopen in West End on 3 February

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella has announced plans to resume performances in the West End.

The premiere production of the new musical announced in December that performances would be suspended because of ongoing uncertainty due to Covid.

It’s now been revealed that shows will return form 3 February – a week earlier than the previously revealed 9 February.

A statement from the show last month shared: “The spread of the omicron variant is devastating. Like so many theatres up and down the country, day after day we are forced to make decisions (often at short notice) based on the latest round of test results.

“This is incredibly difficult for our cast, company and, of course, audiences, many of whom have travelled long distances and spent considerable sums on transport, hotels etc.

“To avoid more disruption, and to protect the quality of the show we give our audiences, we have no option but to suspend all performances of Cinderella until 9th February 2022. We are passionately committed to returning sooner if the circumstances improve and we will keep the situation under constant review.”

They added: “For those who have tickets for performances affected, our theatre teams will be in touch directly. Our teams are immensely busy with rescheduling efforts so we ask you not to contact them.

“We want to thank our cast, crew and everyone at the Gillian Lynne theatre for their ongoing support. We all want nothing more than to give audiences the best possible experience in the theatre.

“On behalf of everyone at Cinderella, we want to thank you all for your patience and understanding at this immensely difficult time for us and everyone in the theatre and live entertainment industry.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new show has been one of many hit by delays and cancelled shows due to the pandemic.

The musical features music from Webber with lyrics by David Zippel and an original story and book by Emerald Fennel.

The retelling of the classic fairytale focuses on Cinderella – played by Carrie Hope Fletcher in the West End – and Prince Sebastian, the younger brother to Prince Charming.

While the show is closed, an original studio cast album is available to stream, download, on CD and Vinyl.
