Anyone Can Whistle revival to play London’s Southwark Playhouse

A new revival of Anyone Can Whistle will play at London’s Southwark Playhouse from April.

The musical by Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents will run at the venue from 1 April to 7 May 2022.

The production will star Alex Young in the role of Cora Hoover Hooper with Chrystine Symone as Nurse Fay Apple and Jordan Broatch as J Bowden Hapgood.

Completing the company are Danny Lane, Samuel Clifford, Renan Teodoro, Nathan Taylor, Kathryn Akin, Marisha Morgan, Teddy Hinde, Hana Ichijo, Shane Convery and Jensen Tudtud

Matthew Rankcom directs with musical director Natalie Pound, choreographer Lisa Stevens, new orchestration by Charlie Ingles, set and costume designer Cory Shipp and lighting designer Alex Musgrave. Artwork is by TidyDesk Design.

Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents’ 1964 musical is a political satire about conformity and the ostracisation of those considered ‘other’ in society.

Set in a fictional town where the government controls everything, even the miracles, this fast paced and off-the-wall musical is as hilarious as it is subversive.

Tickets are on sale online now from southwarkplayhouse.co.uk.

Anyone Can Whistle first opened on Broadway in 1964 with Angela Lansbury leading the cast but closed after just 21 performances.

The show was most recently seen in London at the Union Theatre in 2017.
