Tony Award winners include Six and Company as A Strange Loop is named Best New Musical

West End transfers of Six, Company and The Lehman Trilogy were among the winners at the 2022 Tony Awards.

The 75th Annual Tony Award winners were revealed in New York on Sunday night.

Tony nominee and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose hosted the ceremony live from Radio City Music Hall.

Marianne Elliott’s gender-swapped revival of Company took home the most awards including Best Musical Revival, Best Direction of a Musical and Featured Actress for legend Patti LuPone, her third Tony Award win.

The Lehman Trilogy also took home five awards in total including Best New Play, Best Direction of a Play (Sam Mendes) and Leading Actor for Simon Russell Beale.

After being forced to close on its opening night due to the pandemic more than two years ago, Six finally made its way to the Tonys and picked up two awards. Creators Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss took home Best Original Score while Gabriella Slade won for Best Costume Design.

A Strange Loop beat Six to take home the title of Best New Musical with its creator Michael R. Jackson also picking up Best Book.

Michael Jackson musical MJ won the most awards of any new musical, going home with Best Sound Design (Gareth Owen), Best Choreography (Christopher Wheeldon), Best Lighting Design (Natasha Katz) and Leading Actor (Myles Frost).

The ceremony opened with a spectacular number performed by DeBose, celebrating Broadway’s biggest shows from the past 75 years.

The evening saw performances from Tony-nominated musicals A Strange Loop, Mr. Saturday Night, Company, Music Man, Girl From The North Country, Paradise Square, MJ and Six.

Also taking to the stage were Billy Porter, The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus and the 2007 cast of Spring Awakening, while Bernadette Peters performed a special Stephen Sondheim tribute.
