Mary Poppins to close in London’s West End in January 2023

The Mary Poppins revival in London’s West End is to close in January 2023.

Originally opening on the West End in 2004, the Mary Poppins Musical is inspired by both the original 1960s Disney film and the books on which it’s based.

A new revival started performances at the Prince Edward Theatre in November 2019 and will play its final performance on 8 January 2023.

Mary Poppins tells the story of the Banks family who live in a big house in London on Cherry Lane. In deed of a new nanny for children, Jane and Michael, they find a mysterious young woman is the answer to their prayers, but in the most peculiar way.

The stage adaption features music and lyrics from Richard M. Sherman, Robert B. Sherman, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe with a book by Julian Fellowes.

Zizi Strallen currently leads the cast in the title role alongside Louis Gaunt as Bert and Petula Clark as the Bird Woman.

They’re joined by Charlie Anson as George Banks, Amy Griffiths as Winifred Banks, Liz Robertson as Miss Andrew, Claire Machin as Mrs Brill, Jack North as Robertson Ay and Paul F Monaghan as Admiral Boom and Bank Chairman.

A new West End cast recording of the show was released in 2020.
