Joel Montague to join cast of Waitress in London’s West End

Joel Montague is to join the cast of Waitress in London’s West End, it’s been announced.

Montague (Falsettos, School of Rock and Funny Girl) will join the company in the role of Ogie from December 2.

He’ll take over from Joe Sugg who has been appearing in the show since September 9.

He will join current lead cast members Lucie Jones as Jenna, Hannah Tointon as Dawn, Sandra Marvin as Becky, David Hunter as Dr. Pomatter, Tamlyn Henderson as Earl and Andrew Boyer as Old Joe.

Waitress tells the story of Jenna a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage.

The musical features a Tony and Grammy nominated score by Sara Bareilles, a book by Jessie Nelson and direction by Diane Paulus.

It was recently announced that Bareilles would join the cast in January 2020 alongside Gavin Creel.

The pair will appear in the roles of Jenna and Dr Pomatter from January 27th.

Bareilles previously appeared in the lead role on Broadway alongside Creel earlier in 2019.

They will takeover Lucie Jones and David Hunter in the roles in London through to March 7. Jones and Hunter will return to the roles of Jenna and Dr Pomatter on 9 March.

It’ll be Bareilles’ West End debut with Creel previously appearing in the London casts of Mary Poppins and The Book of Mormon.

Waitress in London recently extended its booking period at the Adelphi Theatre until March 28, 2020
