Laura Pick is to takeover the lead role in London’s West End production of Wicked.
Current standby Pick will play the role of Elphaba with immediate effect, producers announced today (Friday, January 17).
Pick replaces Nikki Bentley who has withdrawn from the production for personal reasons.
In a statement, Wicked UK’s executive producer Michael McCabe said: “In order to be with her family and to focus on a personal situation, Nikki Bentley has chosen to withdraw from the production.
“Nikki’s difficult decision is fully supported by us all and we thank her for the fantastic performances she has given and for her determination to try and work during challenging times. We all wish Nikki well.
“With immediate effect, the role of Elphaba will be played by the wonderful Laura Pick.”
One of the world’s biggest musicals, Wicked has been running at the Apollo Victoria Theatre since 2006 and last autumn celebrated its 13th birthday.
The magical tale reveals the ‘true untold story’ behind the Wizard Of Oz and just what happened before Dorothy dropped in. Featuring some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs, such as Defying Gravity, Wicked will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.
Alongside newly promoted Pick, the Wicked London cast is led by Helen Woolf as Glinda.
