Waitress had been due to play its final performance at the Adelphi Theatre on July 4 but producers announced today (March 27) that the show is unlikely to reopen.

They wrote in a message on social media: "Dearest Waitress customers, It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of our beloved London production of Waitress the Musical.

"As you'll be aware, we've had to temporarily lower the curtain at the Adelphi Theatre and it's now unlikely that the diner will reopen once this period of uncertainty is over.

"If things do change and there is a world in which we believe we could continue a run at the Ade1phi before 4 July, we will be in touch with you.

"Ticket holders will be contacted in due course by their point of purchase. With our best wishes for your health and safety, The Producers of Waitress the Musical "

Sara Bareilles and Gavin Creel led the cast in what is now the final performance of the show on Saturday March 14.

Lucie Jones, who was due to return to the cast to takeover from Bareilles in the role of Jenna, reacted to the news online: "My heart is broken. This video is from my first night as Jenna. I’ll never forget any of this.

"Thank you to the incredible cast crew and fan family of Waitress London: you hold an incredibly special place in my heart."

However fans of the musical needn't fear - there will be a Waitress the Musical UK tour opening in Dublin later in 2020.
