The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Romeo and Juliet has been postponed until next year.

Following in the footsteps of its new 101 Dalmations musical, Romeo and Juliet will now be staged next summer.

Originally scheduled to begin performances in June 2020, the piece will now run between June 26, 2021 and July 24, 2021.

As of writing, the venue’s production of Carousel is still scheduled to begin this year on July 31.

Meanwhile, the West End transfer of Laura Wade’s play The Watsons has been cancelled completely.

The production was to make its West End premiere at the Harold Pinter Theatre after a sell-out season at the Chichester Festival Theatre last year.

Producers announced this week that the upcoming West End run had been cancelled due to the current ongoing global health crisis.

They said in a statement: “Although this news is disappointing, we very much hope to find a way to remount The Watsons at a later date. Until then, the health and wellbeing of our company and audiences remain our priority, and we thank you for your continued understanding during this extremely difficult time.

“If you are a ticket holder you do not need to do anything for the moment as your ticket provider will be in contact to assist you. We wish safety and good health to you all.”
