With a score composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical tells the tale of a group of so-called Jellicle cats deciding who will ascend to the Heaviside Layer.

Featuring songs such as ‘Memory’, the cats each tell their stories at the Jellicle ball before one is chosen to be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

The filmed version features Elaine Paige, John Mills, Rosemarie Ford, Jason Gardiner and John Partridge.

It was the latest of Lloyd Webber’s shows to be made available for free following By Jeeves, The Phantom Of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar.

They form part of the legendary musical theatre composer’s new online series The Shows Must Go On which is making a selection of his works available to watch online for free.

While free to watch, viewers are encouraged to show their support by making a donation to charities alongside each video, including Acting for Others, Broadway Cares and Actors Benevolent Fund.
