The cult hit musical Frank’s Closet is set to sparkle once again, this time returning to its music hall roots at the historic Wilton’s Music Hall.

From 3 – 14 September 2024, audiences can revel in a high-camp, glittering celebration of musical theatre. This iconic production, known for its lavish eccentricity and heartfelt homage to the genre, continues to enchant with its unique blend of British and Broadway musical traditions.

Frank’s Closet tells the story of Frank, a charming yet bemused character on the brink of matrimony, portrayed by Hollyoaks star Andy Moss in his first queer stage role. On the eve of his wedding, Frank decides to donate his fabulous collection of dresses—once worn by iconic Divas—to the V&A Museum. As he parts with each gown, the Divas themselves appear, offering Frank love-infused wisdom from the past, present, and future to soothe his pre-marital jitters.

The show features a riotous blush of Gaiety Girls and a multi-role Diva masterclass by Luke Farrugia, who brings legends like Julie Andrews, Judy Garland, and Agnetha Fältskog to life with uncanny accuracy and touching resonance. The musical weaves together a series of original songs by composer Stuart Wood, exploring themes of love, liberty, and self-discovery.

Originally debuted in 2009 at Hoxton Hall, Frank’s Closet has been described as a queer reimagining of a Dickensian opium dream, blending wit with poignant reflections on life’s commitments. The show’s recent run at the Union Theatre earlier this year garnered critical acclaim, earning five Offie nominations including Best Musical Production, Best Director, and Best Supporting Performance.

Composer Stuart Wood said: “Reincarnating Frank in 2024 has been a revelation; it has been a joy to rediscover its timeless appeal and unleash its madcap humour and glorious songbook on a whole new theatre-going audience.

“It feels right to be returning the show to its music hall origins; like Frank and Alan, the union of Frank’s Closet and Wilton’s Music Hall is simply meant to be. As we throw open the doors of Frank’s Closet, come step inside, to where the limelight meets the starlight.”
