Reviews have dropped for the West End production of Pretty Woman in London - what did the critics make of it?
The stage adaption of the iconic film has transfered from Broadway to London's Piccadilly Theatre.
Pretty Woman tells the story of the unlikely relationship between wealthy businessman Edward Lewis who hires down-on-her-luck Hollywood prostitute Vivian Ward as an escort while on a business trip to LA.
The musical adaption features music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance with a book from Garry Marshall and JF Lawton, who wrote the original film screenplay.

Pretty Woman London reviews
London Evening Standard - 4/5
"Yes, it’s a musical about prostitution, but this adaptation of the 1990 Julia Roberts/Richard Gere rom-com is a triumph of exuberant zest over dodgy subject matter. It matches the charm of the film but has a subversive energy all its own." - Read the full review
The Times - 3/5
"They keep you waiting a long time for that famous title song, which finally arrives at the close, after a playful false start or two. Is it worth being patient? Yes, it is, even if this show is ultimately just another attempt to cash in on the success of a film." - Read the full review
The Guardian - 2/5
"This feels like a shallow and at times tasteless show but, within the rules of a romcom, it works in its central, schmaltzy storyline of love despite the odds. There is also some attempt, however bolted on, to update the story’s sexual politics." - Read the full review
The Independent - 2/5
"[T]his new musical, which opened in the US in 2018 before closing a year later, offers up such a shallow and outdated vision of sex work, female agency and womanhood" - Read the full review
The Telegraph - 2/5
"The show disdains mining the subject matter for darkness and difficulty, instead fetishising the humongous cell-phones of yesteryear and half-celebrating the pre-Tinder age of spontaneous encounters." - Read the full review
The Stage - 2/5
"Cynical and deeply unimaginative musical re-tread of the hit 1990 romcom" - Read the full review
