Into The Woods and Lin-Manuel Miranda win Grammy Awards at 2023 ceremony

Into The Woods and Lin-Manuel Miranda picked up awards at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

The category of Best Musical Theatre Album saw six Broadway cast recordings go head to head for the accolade.

They were the new Broadway cast recordings from recent revivals of Caroline, Or Change and Into The Woods, new musicals MJ The Musical, Mr. Saturday Night and A Strange Loop, and the live Broadway cast recording of SIX.

The cast recording of Into The Woods‘ revival, featuring Sara Bareilles, Brian d’Arcy James, Patina Miller & Phillipa Soo, was named the winner of the award.

Caroline, Or Change‘s new Broadway cast recording was released in 2021 starring Sharon D Clarke alongside John Cariani, Caissie Levy and Samantha Williams. The new Broadway revival from the Roundabout Theatre Company is based on the 2017 Chichester revival which ran in the West End between 2018 and 2019.

The 2023 Grammy Award Musical Theatre Album nominations

MJ The Musical‘s cast recording is led by Myles Frost & Tavon Olds-Sample while Shoshana Bean, Billy Crystal, Randy Graff & David Paymer feature in the Mr. Saturday Night recording.

A Strange Loop‘s new Broadway recording is led by Jaquel Spivey while SIX The Musical features Adrianna Hicks, Andrea Macasaet, Abby Mueller, Brittney Mack, Samantha Pauly and Anna Uzele.

Meanwhile Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media was won by Encanto, beating out the recent West Side Story movie adaptation as well as, Elvis, Stranger Things soundtrack and Top Gun: Maverick.

And in Best Song Written for Visual Media, Lin-Manuel Miranda picked up the gong for penning We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Encanto. Other nominees Be Alive from King Richard, Carolina from Where The Crawdads Sing, Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick, Keep Rising (The Woman King) from The Woman King and Nobody Like U from Turning Red.

The winners were announced at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on 5 February, 2023.
